Thanks for all the very helpful comments.
If I throw my own hat into the ring, I vote "No" to the use of a backup
queue. The current configuration, where the community is very much aware
of what shows are scheduled and where the gaps are, seems to be working
well to manage the flow of shows.
By my reckoning there have been 11 comments about this matter. Of these
8 people have said "Yes" to the continuation of a backup queue
(KWisher's "Yes" was implicit - I hope that is correct), and 3 have said
Of the "Yes" camp, 6 people think that some form of rotation would be
good. The remaining 2 would like to see indefinite retention.
The period of rotation suggested varies from less than 2 years down to 4
weeks. The need to craft shows destined for the backup queue in such a
way that they don't become stale was pointed out.
So, I interpret this as a general agreement that backup shows should
continue to be kept, but that a rotation mechanism to release the older
shows should be implemented.
Please let me know if I have overlooked or misinterpreted anything.
