Hello everybody this is Dave Morris for HPR-15 and today we're doing a recording out in the open air in what we thought might be a fairly quiet place but I think it's going to be fairly noisy. If there's a lot of background noise, excuse it, excuse us and just put up with it and we'll have a shot at cleaning it up if possible. Anyway the point of this particular recording is to note the fact that two HPR hosts have finally met in real life and the two hosts obviously myself, Dave Morris and Mr. Ex. Hi Mr. Ex, and you haven't got your theme tune with you, I always know it's one of your lots, I know that I don't know that I think it's like a phone having a bit of music and you're just a big audience. I tend to speed my HPR shows up but it doesn't bother me particularly. Just to say that we're in an Edinburgh, we both live in an Iran Edinburgh. I won't tell you exactly where we are because you might get the homie missiles coming out of it but I don't know how that would work but the here we thought we found a spot that was fairly far away from the noisy world of Edinburgh and we are quite far away from the centre but we're still fairly close to roads and stuff like that so hopefully there's not going to be too much background noise but no let's go up the top of the hill or something so it's probably even then you'd find somebody coming based on a motorbike or something but anyway we'll give it a shot because I think it's worth commemorating the fact that we have we've communicated by email on an alpha over the years but we've never actually met so it was about time then we got together and did that thing so yeah yeah so go on I was just before I came here I had to be look about to see I'm quite bad with dates and what I don't know I've only been I've been doing these PR for four or five years but I wasn't pretty sure but I think it's going to be come November the Zambot team I think it's going to be seven years so it's a great place to find yes yes it's surprising isn't it so how long have you been and I started in 2012 so I'm about the same yeah yeah I think you might predate me in terms of shows yeah I I I met I offered my services to Ken around about 2012 and did my first show then and then I went to Old Camp in Liverpool I think was in August or something I can't remember what part of you and Ken went to that one and we met there and and I was saying what I'm really enjoying it it's PR that community news is great you should make sure you do it every every month is it right so you've got to come and join us then you know they're two you when they're both of each other it's just fantastic yeah yeah we've become quite good friends as a concept so yeah we're actually meeting up in real life in a lot of camp in October so yeah Ken can make it make it for change good stuff yeah yeah yeah that's going to be good so we we must record something there and if we possibly can so yeah well yeah we didn't really come up with much of an agenda I was when I was listening to your recent shows about how you list the podcasts of you use mock MOC or MOC P yeah that's about confusion yeah it's in the repositories of MOC I went looking on my machine which is which is it's not old it's just I've transferred the whole directories off of previous machines and I found I'd used some books that haven't any more right and I wondered do you not walk around your your house or move around a lot listening to podcasts and if so how do you do it Godless Headwinds oh that was right so I'm just thinking I'm not sure which which the episodes how many episodes of aired so the first episode was about mock was it was that's that when the one that's gone out it's so far the the latest two what was the second one you did two yeah so there's a second one not mentioned the college head I've not heard the second one yeah oh no no this is gonna it's a good way after that no I've not heard it yeah it's next it's in the late block so aha each the day today it's the 24th there's an 4th yeah yeah so yeah I use college headphones it's one of these these them wireless college headphones so it's quite funny because I can sometimes hear the first thing I could hear was there's a club behind me and you hear the karaoke saying that's such a great funny imagine so yeah so I don't know if they ever get any of my HPR broadcasts or whatever so no I'm getting there's a I think I'm actually one of the kids over the road they play games and you hear them talking to their friends oh I'll shoot this one you get that one and that's yeah yeah yeah you know I kind of it is it 900 something to make it it's a kind of a set somebody like that maybe okay I'd never thought to do that I listened to my podcast by sticking them on a board of board player will I do both because it works at lunch teams and whatnot I tend to put my sense of club from a back pocket my usual ones and that works well but I think I might remember how I ended up getting my first set of college headphones and I can't remember what are you using Bluetooth on a Raspberry Pi to play it then? No no it's just it's just that it's basically you have the audio socket comes out of the back and it comes over the say that the Raspberry Pi that goes into a test method which sets. Oh you've got it you've got a Bluetooth just okay so basically you get the chance method and the head ones together and I did you plug them on the weekend? Okay I do not have a thought of that I've got a pair of Bluetooth headphones that I occasionally use my phone but the Bluetooth got quite a limited range yeah yeah yeah yeah with Bluetooth it's rubbish. When you was it was funny because I think again you'll find it by listening to the second episode but I had a right difficulty finding up here the headphones to the place my first pair that eventually snapped and they raised up at one point we were in a market and there were somebody selling these headphones and I saw you know 15 pounds I think that actually I think my headphones are still working at that point these are 15 pounds and I think they came from Japan so they were probably actually a legal in this country being in a kingdom but if you're wondering I get to get my tires and you spit mine and I walk and I walk and I walk and I walk and I walk and I walk and I walk and I think there's a big big place and I've carried them and walking and walking and walking and walking and when the wind is going to drop out you know so they made it the whole length of the market and I don't know how maybe they're going from my nose I don't know but I basically get up and walk back so yeah these are great you know I still got it working when I'm not bothered just knowing hand them back yeah yeah yeah that sounds quite yeah but these were these were vegetable these ones yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah what was available I've seen I've seen these little Bluetooth transmitters that you can get where you plug into a non Bluetooth cable thing and I sort of toyed with doing that but on the whole my experience with Bluetooth is it's horrible yeah it's it's not worth no no it's not worth it yeah for the tools so the only difficulty you've got once you've got kind of headphones is and I'll be and really really bother you me that doing the shoes or whatever I'm doing things around the house and and something happens and you are kind of you know you've got to find somewhere stopping what which someone has really pie upstairs so the the episodes that are to follow explain how I can tool that setup you know Raspberry Pi and my head but it's going to stop the damn thing that's that's that's yeah yeah yeah so I mean I think I think I didn't have a compact laptop it used to hub on in the house and hit a space back just because you know but I know you're a completely different setup I don't know what point I'm with it and might this make him a before so maybe I shouldn't see no don't don't let it out the bag can help it so yeah yeah that's interesting yeah yeah because some I bought some of these little tiny radio devices that you can you can run off of Raspberry Pi and stuff you know there's there's some hats and stuff like there's eight of fruit stuff that does I can't remember what does that chip but they are well I think they're meant for internet of things devices so you would use you know they're not like what's it called Zigbee and that sort of stuff but they're not actually that but they're they're using radio frequency stuff I don't remember the details of it now just off the top of it well you could potentially pick up signals from a device that's data logging more oh yes possibly streaming I don't know I don't know but you know there are devices around where you could possibly make a portable device you carry in your pocket which which through a radio link could talk to your Raspberry Pi and tell it to stop playing music or something I don't know that's the interesting idea I don't know yeah that's that's that's that's that's solution I I used it sir no but I say you'll find it when we should leave this some to do it yeah nice yeah it's interesting because because I'm looking at what compact laptop about places a bit difficult and yeah I mean I can quite I mean I had a typical EPC and that which I get on with for that that's that's sort of the final solution what it means and but that's that's that's quite compact I've said it with a jibbly PC and I still sometimes use it for that very purpose to stop and start what you know but the battery life you don't have to plug it in payments do it well yeah yeah yeah it doesn't it doesn't I also have a jibbly PC yeah which used to go around to conferences and those things uh with me but now it's good sir it's so it's yeah it's suffering from the same problems that you would have described me yeah yeah it's very very old yeah yeah it's kind of about a Samsung laptop or used to be my used to miss his ex his laptop and so she gave me and said I have this it's obviously it takes so long I switch on it it's just terrible so I had when there was seven on the thing and I think I mean I've kept when there was seven in you know I touched into it off and I put a little bit into it and I like ways I've been to and I don't know how old the laptop is now it's been a few years old and I think I may have even uploaded a little bit of a little bit into it was on there as well and it's still you know it's still boots up really quick or fairly quick shut down nice and quick the battery life is fantastic so I mean I don't look after I don't do anything I should be doing with it you know even in charge too long sometimes I like but I don't like looking to the flat but considering the age of the thing I can't believe that the battery life is so good but it's the type of PC is so bad yeah yeah but the power switch the power switch is skilled on this thing in it and of course I hope that affects this okay another YouTube or Google search and somebody says oh this is how you said that if you're Samsung laptop the power switch goes you got a piece of scissors and you stick it in this all you slide across all that's what that's funny that's why do you know so I love those sorts of things but I don't know that we could have watched it yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah why would you yeah exactly amazing what you can you can continue to use the old bits of official lifetime so what happens is there's two pieces of plastic either behind the plastic switch and it pushes over over the real switch and inside and over time you stay that of course one of these pillars snaps and there's only nothing you can do with it yeah yeah so that's it there's a job basically yeah yeah yeah yeah I often wonder because we were talking about 3D printing briefly earlier on yeah yeah I wonder whether yeah and into that sort of stuff you could actually make replacement parts I'm not sufficiently sophisticated with the 3D stuff yet yeah maybe quite a fitly design and that's yeah I don't know how you would get all the dimensions yeah and it currently but you probably could with a pair of fine calipers and stuff yeah yeah which you can get little sort of for about seven pounds and hugs of the fat at all so yeah maybe because there's not um it's a not a thing called uh there's a say is it not some like things are thinking me as something there's a thingy verse yes yes so I wonder if I was a little a little bit just thinking you'd be surprised what you can find on I was looking for something to um oh I don't remember what it was now well I've recently set myself up a new desk to work put my PC on I built a fairly large case machine and I got two monitors and uh over above the top of that I've put two shelves on on the wall yeah you know a metal shop Wrangler anything and because the the shelf above my monitors is a nice height yeah so don't bang my head on it so and I can put my microphones on it for use with with a spare recording since yeah yeah I keep on having ideas about how I could put some LED lights underneath there and um I've got some little LED screen oh yeah I think oh oh my a lot of people yeah and it'd be really nice to be able to display the state of things uh of there's various things around the house or there so there's the state of HDR as well should be fun so so so I keep on looking to see if anybody's come up with designs for for gadgets that you can use to mount bits of electronics onto onto surfaces and stuff so yeah thingy versus is great I'm not fan of huge lot but uh but it is a hell of a lot of stuff yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah you're talking about the monitor and I've got an early flat panel monitor and uh I think I've got some pieces and I've got some such gems as I do really good value at the time and they're a colleague at work so oh yeah you know you can get a uh I'm out for these things you can swivel out and I really recommend it so I had a loop and it was very cheap this this this mode and when I arrived it was very substantial but that was a thing it so it's see the way will it will accept a monitor up to certain signs hmm I thought well what does a lot of what a size is because it's going to be between the desk anyway so I did this thing and I attached it to the desk so screwed it on is it yeah yeah that but it's famous there's no problem with that being there that's good it is so but they're going to be a bit bigger than what it's easy to compare with there's nothing wrong with that a lot of my hand's going to shoot you so well but don't get mad that's what I just do you have a heavy axe so but I'm going to be on your really carefully and then you can get lately it'll go out just all the way I actually installed something like that recently which is a thing with like four hinges on it so you and then you can pull the monitor so yeah I think I can do that it's like a swivel on it yeah so the sum of up my my cat my daughter's cat actually but is this you come mind I think of my daughter leaving it with me keeps thinking that it's a great place to go and rub our head in so you're just sitting there looking at the monitor and the cat comes up and it moves it so it has this disadvantage but it does do a nice job yeah yeah these are good yeah so what is what is what's at each two's in that's a zoom it's a nice two and yeah that fancy thing and I've got my I was hungry with a fight poem from China it's got a record played stop sort of thing so we've been testing and we've been together we've been taking a bit off of the two so as I compare us and I'm sure it'll be no one either's good as they are the zoom bit there we'll be just this to see anybody yeah the trouble with these hand held mics is that they are was it John Colt talking about this reasonably condenser mics like pick up everything like the miles yeah we're sitting in a garden of a yeah there's just nobody around the bulb I was nobody here yeah just got some lot of traffic yeah we just mixed to a junction so yeah and it seems to be the day of the motorbike you know you might get the battery quality so yeah I can send you the failure you can blink that's gonna be fun all right so shall we call it a hold and yeah we're about 18 and nearly 19 minutes yeah it's tons to say yeah yeah yeah but then we'll stop it there yeah yeah we must do this again in another time yeah we should have next time but I'll check it out back here public radio you've been listening to Hecker Public Radio as Hecker Public Radio.org we are a community podcast network
